Processes Applied to Free Cutting Steels

Since the surfaces that do not require machining should be within precise measurement tolerances, free cutting steels are mostly used as cold drawn. Meanwhile, steels containing about 0.120% sulfur and low carbon, called semi-automatic steel, are used in the manufacture of hot and cold forging and punching parts, as well as good machinability. (Example: nuts) 9SMn28 quality containing high sulfur is used successfully in hot forging application. Meanwhile, in recent years, various pipes have started to be produced by pressing and extrusion of semi-boiling automat steels. Such an application also brings about a reduction in machining costs and material savings to a large extent.
